mPower Health

Our Beginning

mPower Social Enterprises was born out of ClickDiagnostics Inc., which was founded by graduate students of Harvard University and MIT in 2008. We started our journey in Egypt in partnership with their Ministry of Health and Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Our work soon spread to other countries in the world, particularly Botswana, Bangladesh, Ghana and Uganda.

Our pioneering work in the field of mHealth, which encouraged many other organizations to enter this field, was recognized by:

  • Runner-up prize in USAID Global Development Award 2009 (handed over by the then Administrator of USAID, Henrietta Ford)
  • Best Telemedicine Innovation Award at the World Health Congress in 2009 (handed over by Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen)
  • Top 5 Social Business Innovation Award Bangladesh 2010 (handed over by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder of BRAC)

In early 2010, the center of gravity of our work shifted to Bangladesh with a partnership with the world’s largest NGO, BRAC. Subsequently, several other initiatives were undertaken with more major NGOs in Bangladesh covering many corners of the country.
